When DayClerk analyzes an audience segment, a common first question is: where is this information coming from? Is the AI pulling from a database? Scraping websites? Making educated guesses? The short answer is: none of the above. The longer answer is worth understanding — because it explains both what the predictions are good for and how to get the most out of them.
It draws on trained behavioral knowledge — not live data
DayClerk runs on Claude, a large language model built by Anthropic. Claude was trained on an enormous breadth of published material — academic research in behavioral economics and consumer psychology, UX and conversion rate literature, marketing case studies, and a wide range of observed human behavior. DayClerk does not train or fine-tune its own model. What it does is design the inputs to Claude precisely — the way a question is framed, the context provided, the structure of the analysis requested — so that Claude's trained knowledge is directed toward a specific behavioral problem: how this type of audience, with this goal, in this context, is likely to behave on your page.
This means the AI does not access live websites, competitor pages, or audience databases during your simulation. It has no internet connection at runtime. What it has is a deeply trained understanding of how people in different contexts — different awareness levels, emotional states, decision stages, and demographic profiles — tend to behave when they land on a page with a particular goal.
DayClerk does not scrape websites, pull from audience databases, or access any external data source when running a simulation. Every prediction is derived from the AI's trained knowledge and your specific inputs.
Your inputs are the most important variable
The behavioral analysis is not generated in a vacuum. Everything you provide during campaign setup shapes what the AI produces. The three most impactful inputs are the campaign objective, the segment description, and any documents you upload.
Campaign objective
This is the richest signal in the entire prompt. A vague objective — "increase conversions" — produces generic output. A specific objective — "drive trial sign-ups from small business owners who are skeptical of AI tools, by emphasizing ease of setup and a free first month" — gives the AI a clear frame of reference for every friction point, content expectation, and module selection it makes. The more precisely you describe what you are trying to accomplish and who you are trying to convince, the more specific and actionable the predictions become.
Segment description
Custom segments are where the largest quality gains are available. A custom segment labeled "small business owners" is broad enough to describe tens of millions of people. A custom segment described as "independent retail shop owners, aged 40–60, skeptical of tech tools after a bad experience with an inventory system, trying to compete with larger chains" is a specific behavioral profile. Uploaded documents
When you upload a campaign brief, persona document, analytics export, or customer research file, the AI reads and extracts structured signals across several categories — what claims are being made, who the audience is, what the strategic intent is, and what evidence or proof points are present. These signals are used to ground the behavioral analysis in your actual business context. This is the mechanism that moves the predictions from "what is known about this segment type in general" toward "what is likely true for this specific segment, given what you have told us about your business and your audience." What the predictions actually are
The behavioral output — friction points, content expectations, drop-off risks, behavior paths — should be understood as directional hypotheses, not statistical certainties. They represent what is likely to be true for this type of audience in this type of context, given everything the AI has learned and everything you have provided. They are not derived from live tracking data on your specific audience.
Think of the predictions as a fast first draft of your audience research — grounded in behavioral science, shaped by your inputs, and designed to surface hypotheses worth testing.
This framing is also why the tool is designed to run before you build, not after. The simulation produces a behavioral model of each segment so the page is constructed around how that audience actually thinks and acts — not retrofitted with personalization after the fact. That sequence is where the leverage is: you are not decorating a generic page with audience-specific language. You are building a different page for each segment from the ground up, using behavioral intelligence as the blueprint.
How to calibrate your expectations
DayClerk is not a replacement for user research, A/B testing, or qualitative interviews. It is a fast, scalable way to generate informed starting points — behavioral hypotheses that would otherwise require weeks of research to develop manually. The friction points it surfaces may not all apply to your specific audience. The drop-off risks may surface things you already know. But even in those cases, having the analysis made explicit and structured into a page layout is worth more than leaving it implicit.
The most effective way to use these predictions is to treat them as your first version of audience research — concrete enough to act on immediately, testable enough to validate or disprove with real traffic data over time. When predictions align with what your real users show you, your confidence in the segment model grows. When they diverge, you have a specific hypothesis to interrogate: was the segment description accurate? Was the objective specific enough? Is there data from your actual users you should be uploading?
